2015 Chateau La Garde

$49.99

Chateau La Garde Pessac Leognan (and for those of you who check my facts, do be sure to add the Pessac Leognan to the search – there are many La Garde scattered around Bordeaux) has at least as long a history as Belgrave, but one touch less by royalty and British hands.

Chateau La Garde’s fame begins in the 18th century with 1732 being a hallmark vintage that brought the building of the actual chateau. Almost throughout its entire history, it’s been owned by French merchants (with a brief stint in the hands of the Lacoste family – think European polos) eventually ending up with the powerhouse negociant CVBG Now I realize that is the least sexy story that you’ve ever heard about a Bordeaux chateau! But the fact of the matter is, Bordeaux has long been controlled by merchants, and CVBG is presently one of the biggest and most powerful.

What this means to us drinkers of is that CVBG was able to pour investments of time, money and energy into the esteemed property. And that they have! At the highest vine density of any Pessac Leognan property, and with all-new winemaking equipment, their 2015 La Garde is ready to strut its stuff:

Deeply intense, the 2015 La Garde opens with a complex note of intense black fruits that exude a beautiful bouquet of crème de cassis, black currant and black cherry mixing with a roasted, smoky note with just a hint of the classic gravel note of Graves. The front of the palate is supple, smooth and then generates into a generous mouthfeel defined by its supple, concentrated fruit and rich depth. The fruit character on the nose carries through to the palate, adding a savory touch. The finish is long and seamless with structured tannins. Drink now or 12 years from now. This wine is gorgeous.
