Winery notes:
“The family of Livio Sassetti produces wine in Montalcino for over three generations. The Podere Pertimali and its 16 hectares of vineyards are located in the Montosoli area, north of Montalcino, a particularly well-known area for the cultivation of the Sangiovese. Faithful to the teachings of his family Livio has over time renewed and expanded the vineyards, preserving the genetic heritage of the old vines and preserving the primigenie characteristics. In 1967, Livio was among the founders of the Consorzio del Brunello di Montalcino and in 1968 he built a terracotta wall in his cellar to preserve the old vintages of the wines produced by the family, the company’s historical memory.
“Brunello tasting note: Intense ruby red color. Dark fruits of black cherry, blackberry, plum and with sweet spices. Elegantly structured with a fresh acidity and elegant, smooth, tannins.
“Montecucco tasting note: Ruby red with purple highlights. Aromas of blackberries, plums, spices and liquorice. On the palate is well structured and complex with firm and soft tannins. Long silky finish.”
Critical Acclaim Brunello:
“98 points.
“There’s something ethereal in the nose with flowers, cherries, strawberries and shitake mushrooms. Full body. This grows on the palate with super tannin and fruit structure. So much berry flavor and round, caressing tannins that fill your mouth. Tight at the end. This needs four to five years to show its true greatness. Try after 2023.” – James Suckling

“The 2015 Livio Sassetti Brunello di Montalcino is incredible and one of the top wines from the vintage. Displaying a gorgeous color, with powerful and well-structured nature, it releases notes of red flowers, currants, hibiscus flowers and ripe strawberries that comes together with hints of cola and an earthy character. Displaying extraordinary quality, this young Brunello possesses a medium-to full-bodied, soft tannins, remarkable precision leading up to the stunning finish. Elegant in its subtle concentration with beautiful balance on the palate which makes it accessible even at the early stage. This is striking today but should also have an incredible future ahead, one of the finest wines from the vintage.” –International Wine Report
